The park had been constructed in the early 70’s and had not received any major improvements since then. The concrete pavement was buckling in many places and the drainage system was overwhelmed during heavy rains. many of the benches and tables were broken or in disrepair.
The reconstruction process took several years and started with the Friends of Bardascino Park researching the funding history of the park, applying for grants to fund reconstruction and working with the Department of Recreation and the Streets Department in designing and implementing a plan. the heavy equipment arrived in the fall of 2003 and construction lasted most of the winter, and was completed in spring, 2004.
With new brick paving, a rebuilt bocce court, water fountain, new planting beds and a water and drainage system, bardascino park looks better than ever!
